So, what is Hypnosis?


Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that is a common experience for each of us. If you have ever "zoned out" while watching TV, reading a book, gazing into space, or even driving a car, and been unaware of what else was happening around you, then you have experienced the state of trance that occurs in hypnosis. 


Most of us experience hypnosis every single day. We simply move to a heightened state of suggestibility. Whilst there we "program" our subconscious mind with ideas that influence our experience and perception of life.


The so-called subconscious mind is where we store our individual memories, experiences and programs. It is also where our emotions and feelings originate. Emotions of fear or love, doubt or conviction, resentment or gratitude, hesitation or confidence. So when we can speak directly to the subconscious we effect change more rapidly, more efficiently and with longer-lasting results. This direct contact avoids the interference of the critical conscious mind which might otherwise resist the beneficial suggestions.


When you are in a state of hypnosis, your attention is focused on your subjective experience - your feelings, your thoughts and imagery, which together determine your perception of the world. Whenever you are involved in something that stimulates your imagination and emotions - focusing on your subjective experience - you are experiencing some level of hypnosis. 


Therapeutic Hypnosis is simply a technique using suggestive language to lead a person into a relaxed, receptive state where they can access and utilise the power of their unconscious mind to direct their own behaviours and outcomes.


The purpose of hypnosis is to program the mind with new ideas that will work in conjunction with programs that are already in the subconscious. The idea is to ensure that the subconscious mind fully supports the new idea, which means you experience instant results. A large part of the process is directed at gaining subconscious alignment with the desired change.
